Art at Flockton

Art is an integral part of our curriculum and is used as a visual communication tool.  We provide our pupils with a wide range of experiences in the Arts such as: Performing Arts, Music, Singing, Print, Painting, Sculpture, Photography & Design.  Our Christian vision of Rooted in the Community, Branching into the Future,  underpins the work we do with Church, parents and local artists.  We also run an Art Afterschool Club.

Our spiritual journey in Art

Elder Class Prehistoric Art

See how Elder Class learnt prehistoric art skills to complement their stone age learning.

Mapping it Out.

Children in Sycamore class have been exploring how artists use maps.  They looked are their journeys to school, and used oil pastels to make large scale art work. We then used picture windows to recreate abstract art peices.  The children then looked at local landmarks and objects that relate to our community, drawing simple reprentations with large markers.  Pupils then explored printing techniques by drawing designs on to printing tiles.

Here are some of the comments from the pupils in the class.

"We have been printing and drawing our pictures. Mine was a tractor.  We drew on to print tiles with a pencil.  Then we used a roller to cover it with ink.  You have to press as hard as you can on the paper.  Then you lift it off.   I chose blue printing ink.  I was happy with how it turned out. My top tip for a good print is to push the pencil deeper into the tile to get a clear print". Jake yr. 3

Hassan yr. 2  "Mine got better and better.  My top tip is to get lots of colour on so you have a strong colour".

A good tip for printing is to put lots of paint on and push really hard to make it print". Poppy yr 3

Festival of Light

Elder Class created fantastic 3D lanterns for the Festival of light at the National Coal Mining Museum.  The children worked alongside staff from the National Coal Mining Museum to create the 3D art works.  They were then place in the art installation.  Pupils then had the opportunity to return with their parents to take part in the festival parade.

"The students at Flockton school were enthusiastic, responded positively to a challenge and worked well as a team. The Miners Lamps that they created were enjoyed by the public at our annual lantern parade". Amy Boothroyd - National Coal Mining Museum.

Sycamore Class working with local artist Chloe Williams from Children's Art School.

They explored the concept of Light and Dark with charcoals and rubbers to create different tones.  The children loved working with an Artist in school and working on large scale collaborative pieces.

Year 1 painting with natural materials and coffee

The Year 1 children did some fantastic pictures using coffee and homemade brushes.  They did this during thier outdoor learning session with Mrs Morris.  Don't they look amazing!

After school Art Club

The children's art club created some fantastic 3D masks using pastels, crayons, marker and card. We used collaging techniques and layering to create a 3D feel to the masks.
