British Values

The Department for Education introduced a statutory duty for all UK schools to promote and teach fundamental British Values.

British Values Statement

At Flockton CofE (C) First School, we are dedicated to nurturing a learning environment that embraces the core British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. These values are integral to our ethos and are woven into the fabric of our school culture, curriculum, and daily activities.

Democracy
We encourage pupils to express their opinions and participate actively in decision-making processes. Through our school council and classroom discussions, students learn the importance of democracy, representation, and the impact of their voices in shaping the school community.

The Rule of Law
Understanding and respecting the rule of law is a cornerstone of our community. We instill the importance of laws, whether they are those that govern the class, the school, or the country, and ensure pupils recognize the responsibilities and consequences that come with them.

Individual Liberty
We foster an environment where pupils are empowered to make choices and take responsibility for their actions. Through a supportive framework, students are encouraged to understand their rights and personal freedoms, and how to exercise these safely.

Mutual Respect and Tolerance
Respect and tolerance are at the heart of our school values. We celebrate diversity and promote an understanding and appreciation of different cultures, faiths, and beliefs. Our curriculum includes opportunities to engage with a variety of cultural perspectives, encouraging pupils to develop empathy and respect for others.

At Flockton CofE (C) First School, we are committed to ensuring that these values are lived out through our curriculum, assemblies, and the everyday interactions that take place within our school. We believe that by embedding these values, we can equip our pupils to be responsible, respectful, and active members of society.

We welcome discussions with pupils, staff, and parents to ensure our British values statement is meaningful and relevant to our school community.
