Maths

Flockton C of E First School believes that every child should have the right to a curriculum that champions excellence; supporting pupils in achieving to the very best of their abilities.

At Flockton C of E First School, Maths lessons ensure coverage of the National Curriculum and are delivered by using the Mastery approach of teaching by following the White Rose Maths Curriculum. The Curriculum is spiralled, so that children can build on learning over time and gain confidence as they progress through school and develop their knowledge and understanding in a range of topics.

Intent, Implementation & Impact statement

Our spiritual journey in Maths

Our Maths vision and intent is underpinned by 5 main principles:

Year 4 Multiplication check

In year 4 our pupils sit a multiplication check. This consists of a timed online test that checks pupils understanding of mulitplication facts up to 12 x 12.  The children practise times tables in school through a variety of different methods.  Each child has access to TT Rockstars, that they can access at school and at home.

100 day maths

We celebrated 100 days into the school academic year by holding a Maths 100 day in school. Children brought in different bags filled with exactly 100 of an item.  They estimated, weighed and ordered the different objects in class.  Apple Class made 100 sheep in Religious Education.  Elder Class wrote mini stories with 100 words, looked at classrooms 100 years ago and made lego creations using exactly 100 peices.

What does maths look like in lessons

All children follow the White Rose Maths scheme of work.

From Year 3 upwards we use White Rose Maths books to support children with their learning. You can see from the pictures below how maths looks and how we use Working Walls to support learners in the classroom.  Children learn to use a wide variety of practical resources to aid their understanding of mathematical concepts.
